Turkish Writing Programme

In our previous writing programmes we crafted stories, but this time we are enhancing our writing skills through translation practice!

In this programme, participants will tackle a new translation task every week, ranging in styles such as novels, news articles, recipes, and stories. Participants will translate from English to Turkish.

The programme welcomes all levels of proficiency, ensuring each participant receives a task tailored to their level.

To register for the programme, please click "How to Register" to access the registration instructions.

Aims:

  • To learn new vocabulary.
  • To be able to use vocabulary and expressions in the correct contexts.
  • To be able to use grammar structures (suffixes, tenses, etc.) correctly.
  • To improve writing skills and eventually reading and speaking skills.
  • Building skills in understanding and preserving the tone, style, and nuances of the original text during translation.
  • Providing exposure to different cultural contexts and language registers through translation practice, fostering cultural sensitivity and adaptability.

Points to note about the programme:

  • Throughout the programme, there will be three meetings:
1.The introductory meeting: Here, the teacher will outline the programme's structure and address any questions from participants.
2.The Q&A session: Participants can bring specific questions regarding their translations or general enquiries, all of which the teacher will address.
3.The final evaluation: This meeting will involve a comprehensive assessment of participants' progress. The teacher will discuss common mistakes made during the programme and offer strategies to avoid them. Participants are encouraged to ask questions about their texts, whether general or specific.
  • Each Sunday marks the deadline for submissions and the unveiling of the next task. On Mondays, participants will receive corrections for their previous work, crucial for identifying and learning from mistakes before diving into the new task.

  • Additionally, students can ask questions about grammar, vocabulary, or any other aspect of the language via WhatsApp or email on weekdays.

I am proficient in a number of languages and have studied with quite a few teachers and language schools. My Turkish language studies count amongst the most effective and most enjoyable of these experiences. My teacher has not only been excellent but also paid attention to my particular strengths and weaknesses and made sure that my studies have been enjoyable and interesting. Highly recommended.

My learning experience with my Turkish language teacher has been both very rewarding and very enjoyable. In gradual increments over the last two years I have increased my capabilities in Turkish such that I hope in the near future to visit Turkey and be able to hold reasonable conversations. The course is not easy and demands continual efforts, because Turkish is no easy language to acquire for the English speaker. However, under the tutelage of my teacher I have been able to acquire both a wide range of grammatical constructions and a significant vocabulary. The focus is not only on reading, writing and speaking, but also the cultural context of the Turkish language, historical and contemporary. I thoroughly recommend my teacher and the course taught, for the skills with which I have been provided in Turkish, as well as the enjoyment I have had whilst learning it.

Kübra's private lessons were enjoyable and well structured, they gave me confidence to speak to my family in law. I learned a lot about Turkish traditions during our classes. I would certainly recommend Kübra's lessons to anyone who is looking to improve the Turkish language skills but also is interested to learn more about the culture.

I had the grammar course with School of Turkish and I really benefited a lot. The lessons were very well structured and touched upon various topics that we needed to learn at our level. Not only this, but the way the lessons were delivered was very informative and enjoyable. What I liked the most is that every rule we learned was practiced instantly via different methods, and that was very helpful for me. The effort made in preparing the lessons was very clear; thanks to Kübra hoca for that, and for delivering an excellent course :)
