Dr. Gizem Rey is a Turkish language teacher from Turkey. She gained her undergraduate degree in Turkish Language and Literature from Istanbul University, where she also gained Masters degrees in Teaching Turkish and Turkic Folk Literature. Gizem holds a PhD in Turkic Folk Literature from Istanbul University, has co-authored Turkish language coursebooks and holds a Certificate in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language, also from Istanbul University.
Gizem’s close academic ties to Istanbul University are matched by her professional career in education. She has worked as Lecturer in Turkish Language at both the Istanbul University Language Center and the School of Foreign Languages since 2011. During her time at Istanbul University, Gizem taught general and academic Turkish to international students, as well as preparing course content, assessment and curriculum design.
Gizem is a passionate language teacher and learner and has studied multiple Turkic languages, including Ottoman Turkish and is academically interested in Turkic mythology and folklore. She has also worked for many years as a freelance translator and interpreter.
